naturSource Nuts and Trail Mixes

A little while ago I got an email from the folks at naturSource asking if I’d be interested in trying out some of their products and sharing my thoughts on here. When I started this blog I had plans to use the Everything Else section to, among other things, share my thoughts on products from time to time. That obviously hasn’t taken off the way I envisaged. So this seemed like as good a time as any to start.

They sent me a selection of their products, pictured below:

Clockwise from left: Tamari Almonds, Lite, So Smart, Oh Rosemary, Voyageur Ultra, Luxure

Each of these products was quite good. I can’t really find anything bad to say about any of them, each was fresh and had that natural taste that the company clearly strives for. Any of them would make for a healthy and filling snack. That being said, some definitely stood out more than others. Among those that I sampled  there were three clear favourites – the “Luxure” cashews, the “Oh Rosemary” mixed nuts, and the “Lite” trail mix.

The Luxure cashews are described as sweet and savoury sesame crusted cashews. The sweet / salty combination actually reminded me a bit of Cracker Jacks, but more savoury, and definitely classier because they’re cashews and not popcorn. My girlfriend noted a few times that she could easily eat the whole bag. I could do the same, these are very good and quite addictive. Also, true to the recommendation on the bag, they served well in an pork and edamame bean stir fry that we made.

The Oh Rosemary nut mix is a spicy and salty mix of cashews, almonds and pecans. They had an unexpected bit of heat to them which really worked for me. For me, this mix was just as addictive as the Luxure cashews and I actually enjoyed eating them together (again combining the sweet with the salty). On their own, these would be great to snack on with a beer, think healthy substitute for chips (fat content notwithstanding).

The Lite trail mix is your classic trail mix. It’s hard to get too excited about trail mix, but this was a good one. What took it up a notch was the addition of dried blueberries to complement the dried raisins and the overall quality / size of the fruit pieces in the mix. I was snacking on this stuff at work all week.

I hesitated a bit before agreeing to accept these samples and write this review but at the end of the day I’m happy to help spread the word about a local Montreal based company producing quality products and exhibiting a real commitment to doing things the right way (just browse their website to see what I mean). These naturSource products are good; I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for them.

I can vouch for these as well. My dad passed away in October and our family received a small gift basket containing some wine, cheese and mixed nuts. The nuts were dry roasted and rosemary flavoured. Although they were made by a different company, I went on a search online to find more and discovered NaturSource. I found a company online called Juhub that does mail order to Manitoba where I live and ordered a bunch of them. They’ve proven so popular where I work, etc. that I need to order more and will probably be getting them on a regular basis. Thanks for letting me rave about these, they are really amazing.
